FREE Fiction - Happy Valentine's Day!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

To celebrate this day of love, my sis, Tasha, and I are sharing some free stories with you.

Over at Tasha's blog, you can find, Motivation, a fun little investigation of what it takes to persuade a shapechanger he's not stuck in one shape.

And I have a spooky love story for you: Phantom Love, which you can download from the widget below.

When Ben promises to show his cousin, Ellen, a ghost, the pair set in motion a series of events that lead them into a terrifying encounter. Yet, within her fear, Ellen finds a purpose, and it is to find out what Millicent Van Curren, shot by her lover, wants from them.

Phantom Love is book 1 in the Inspired By... Series, where each story is prompted by a memory.

Guest Post: Creating an Alien Vampire - Abducted Life - New Release by Patricia Jospehine

Today, to celebrate the release of her latest book, a New Adult, Sci-fi Romance, Abducted Life, I am happy to welcome Patricia Josephine to my blog, and she's talking about

Creating an Alien Vampire

The dream I had that inspired Abducted Life was about a vampire trying to escape aliens. He had the clichĂ© vampire traits like fangs, but for Abducted Life I wanted Savannah and Evan's looks to reflect the fact that aliens messed with their genetics to make them less human––especially in Evan's case. Not so much for Savannah. I had some ideas in mind and there were a couple real life creatures that really inspired me.

Alien vampires are real
When it came to Evan and alien vampires, I had one specific animal in mind: a sea lampray. Specifically, it's mouth. I wanted Evan's changes to be something he had to cover and in doing so would make him stand out in a crowd. It also had to be horrifying. He shrugs it off in the story, but it's not an easy change to cope with as he makes it seem.

As for the alien creature, what I had in mind was something aquatic. I imagined something like the opposite of whales which breathe oxygen, but can spend hours under water. These creatures can spend hours on land, but only breathe underwater and hold their breath when out of the water. But since Evan is human and breathes oxygen, he can't breathe underwater. If he had been a fish spliced with this creature that'd be a different story. ;) Also, imagine something with a body like a crocodile, but the scaly skin isn't as rough.

Abducted Life

Patricia Josephine

Savannah Janowitz’s perfect life was destroyed the night she and her boyfriend vanished without a trace. When she reappears a year later––alone––she’s a shell of her former self. Robbed of her popularity and her boyfriend, she has no memory of what happened to her. Savannah struggles to move forward as strange, new abilities manifest.

Evan Sullivan never gave extra-terrestrials much thought until the night he and Savannah were abducted. While Savannah’s memory was wiped clean, he remembers every horrific detail. Constantly reminded of the experiments that made him less than human, Evan hides in the shadows and watches Savannah rebuild her life without him. But neither can let the other go.

When their paths cross, Savannah and Evan finally see a glimmer of their old lives return. As they face what happened to them, they soon discover they aren’t safe. There’s more to fear than what’s hiding in the stars.

Available for 99cents at Amazon.

About the Author

Patricia Josephine never set out to become a writer. In fact, she never considered it an option during high school and college. She was all about art. On a whim, she wrote down a story bouncing in her head. That was the start of it and she hasn't regretted a moment. She writes young adult under the name Patricia Lynne.

Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo, has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow, and an obsession with Doctor Who.

Author's Note

So the theme this week is 'cold' and I already went for the sexy side of hot and cold in my drabble for this week on FB3X blog, Fire Under Ice, so I thought a little further and another image of cold for me is when you feel awful and you have a bad cold and fever and then I went one step further and wondered what that would be like for someone with dragon blood :)

R is For Reveal - The End of The Journey (The Hidden War 1) Cover Reveal

I mentioned earlier in the month that I have been mulling over expanding on a short story/novella universe, The Hidden War, which I created when writing a couple of stories for The Wittegen Press Giveaway Games in July 2012. My first step was to start serialising the third story, A Fork In The Road, on this blog (part one was published under K is for Knowing and part two was published under Q is for Questions).

And while beginning book 3, I also began to prepare for releasing the original two stories, The End Of The Journey and A New Path, as standalone ebooks.  This involves all the usual rigmarole of re-editing (I never ignore a chance to do another pass on work when I'm going for a new edition), formatting and cover design. And, while I'm still slogging away at the editing and formatting, I'm excited today, because I get to reveal the cover of the first Hidden War ebook, The End Of The Journey :D.

So, without further ado - ta da!

Q is for Questions

Today on the A to Z Blogging Challenge, this is the second part of The Hidden War #3, A Fork In The Road. Part one can be found here.

Author's Note

I've been mulling over this Young Adult universe, The Hidden War, since I first adapted a Harry/Draco fanfic story premise for use in The Wittegen Press Giveaway Games. I found myself writing two stories in The Hidden War series when I'd only planned one, and then I found myself writing a drabble, It Takes Two, for FB3X Drabble Cascades as well and I finally decided that this universe is worth expanding into more stories. So, I haveam serialising story #3, A Fork In The Road, here on my blog.

The stories are based in a Great Britain where, unknown to us ordinary folk, there is a war raging, The Hidden War. The stories follow two young men thrust into the war by birth, on opposite sides: Damon Wulfres, son of one of the most powerful and ruthless demon raisers in the land; Zac Kithrall, a demon-seer and would-be slave to any raiser who can take him.

The other stories are called, The End Of The Journey and A New Path, and are available in the Giveaway Games Anthologies. The End Of The Journey is now available as a standalone eBook and A New Pat will be coming soon.

My GoodReads Review of Always by Pamila Daniel - not my type of book, but...

AlwaysAlways by Pamila Daniel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'm going to say upfront, I didn't get to the end of this book I got to halfway through. So, why 4 out of 5 stars then? The reason, is I think this is a well written book and engaging, but for someone else, not me. If you like Barbara Taylor-Bradford, or Danielle Steele, then this book is your type of book.

When I read the summary, it suggested maybe a bit of paranormal to me, and there is some spiritualism in it, but it is definitely in the strong-woman romance category with the supernatural gift on the side. I want wonder with my supernatural talents, y'know, a bit of the unusual, and this book doesn't attack the subject that way, it is much more matter-of-fact, reminds me actually of Orson Scott-Card's Alvin the Maker in its practical style - another book that left me personally disappointed.

I tried this book out on a chance, it wasn't for me, but I think literary romance lovers, or those who just like strong women in their fiction with really go for it.
