So, I couldn't miss today, Black Cat Appreciation Day, to celebrate Black Cats, because I have an absolute darling of a kittie called Binx, who is my own little black panther; this is a picture of her (above) as she was rolling around on our decking in the sun.
When I adopted her and her mum, Silver (not a black cat, but still wonderful), from the brilliant rescue centre, Happy Endings Rescue, they said they have difficulty re-homing black cats, because people are superstitious about them, but I've always loved the melanistic little beasties :).
Binx was only 7 months when she moved in with us, and she was a pretty little bundle of nerves, but after a year with us, she is just such a loving little lady. She's always happy to see you, and if you call, she comes trotting up, tail straight up in the air. And she adores a good scratch on the top of her head.
I love my sweet little black cat, and I think everyone else should love her too :D.
If anyone is interested, this picture of Binx is available on Society6 as a print, plus all sorts of nifty accessories like phone and laptop cases, T-shirts, throw pillows, and much more,

Feline Update 02 - Garden Hijinx
Well, our new girls, Binx and Silver are settling in well. It seems like they've been with us forever, even though it's only been since 29th May. They've been going outside for a few weeks, now, and they loved this week's sunshine. They're not sit-in-the-sun cats, they're sensible girls and keep in the shade mostly, but the warmth has seen them spending most of the days outside. I managed to get some lovely pictures of them enjoying the day yesterday.
Binx has developed the habit of going outside to the bird-table and claiming bits of bread that have fallen off it, she then plays with them, tossing them up and chasing them around, before finally proudly carrying them into the house and dropping them at one of her pet humans' feet. This picture is her in the midst of a lazy pounce :).
Except when she's chasing her daughter madly round the garden at sunset, Silver is a much more laid back individual than Binx. She likes to lie in the warm day and take it easy. She was so relaxed she was rolling on her back and showing her belly. I didn't quite catch that movement, but this is of her just afterwards, and I think she looks absolutely adorable.
All in all, they're both doing very well. We registered them with our vet last week, which led to some upset when we took them to do the deed (it was the first time they'd been in their cat box and out of the house since we brought them in), but the vet was very happy with them, said they were the in wonderful condition. All was well again when we got them back home as well, especially since it meant they got an extra pouch of food ;P.
We really fell on our feet with these two cats, they are wonderfully natured. Thanks again Happy Endings Rescue.

Welcoming Some New Feline Members of Our Family

| Ythran, you'll always be in my heart. |
It has been very quiet around the house without him and some people may think it is too soon, but we needed the presence of kitties again. So, three weeks ago, we went to The Happy Endings Rescue Centre, a wonderful place in the English countryside where I think they must take in any animal that comes to them (they have 27 barn owls from a private collection because they wouldn't say no :)).
Happy Endings Rescue are open from 2-4 everyday for people wanting to visit and see their animals for rehoming. We just turned up and they were so lovely. They took us over to see the cats, who were all looking very content. We were looking for a pair of cats, and I'd been to the Happy Endings website to look at their felines in need of homes.
Silver and Binx were the second pair of cats we met, and I have to say I instantly fell in love with Silver. A beautiful, petite silver tabby, she jumped up on a shelf to greet us and proved she loved a good head rub. Binx, her daughter, a little smaller still and completely black, was much more timid, hiding at the back of their pen, so we only got to nod to her that first meeting. That was it, though, we loved them and we arranged immediately for a home assessment.

So, it was a tentative start with Binxey, but she came out of her shell amazingly quickly. She made it upstairs that night with encouragement from Silver, and even came down for breakfast - it took twenty minutes of calling, but eventually she realised there was food at the end of the trip. And by Sunday evening, she even came into the lounge with all of us and explored the place. That's when the first picture above was taken. And she's been coming on leaps and bounds ever since. Until, a few days ago, we concluded both girls were feeling at home :).

So these are our beautiful new girls, who are loved by all members of our family, including our dog, Nemo, who thinks they are wonderful. It's a new chapter in our household. Goodbye Ythran, my lovely, old fellow, you can never be replaced, but I hope you don't mind that I needed some new feline company.
