Murder Most Foul! - E is for Embarrassment - Cozy Mystery #AtoZChallenge 2016

Welcome to my contribution to the A to Z Challenge. My theme this year is Murder Most Foul, which, for you, my blog visitors, means that you will be sharing in The Case of the Cursed House, or rather the bare bones of it.

Everyday, I will be revealing more about my developing Cozy Mystery: descriptions of scenes; character details; locations; clues to the mystery. And, at the end of each post, you will have the chance to vote on whodunnit. So, without further ado, on with the case...

Story Notes Additional Details
Aisha goes to see Jon at his cottage. When he answers the door, he has clearly been crying. He takes her into the kitchen and offers tea, but when he goes to fill the kettle, his hand is shaking so badly the water is missing the spout. Aisha takes over and tells him to sit down.

Once tea mugs are in hand, she waits for Jon to talk.

...

On site interview with Jon Lee:
  JL - I am going to miss him so much, we've known each other since we were at university together. We started in the literary industry together, he was my first client when we were both just poor graduates. He's not my only client now, but he was my best friend. I can't believe he's gone.
Things weren't friendly between you last night, though, were they?
::John colours::
Why didn't you tell us about the fight earlier, Jon?
  JL - Frankly, I was embarrassed. Bill's a mean drunk, but the things he said were hateful.
Do you know why he was like that to you?
  ::John shakes his head::
  JL - All I did was ask him about the argument he had with Michael and I told him off for being so rude. He just exploded at me, said I was a stupid fool and then launched into those horrible things.

I mean, we never talked about it, but he knew I loved him, always have been. Bill was bisexual and he was promiscuous, couldn't keep his trousers on most of the time, but he never looked at me that way. I never knew he resented me so much.
Were there any of his former partners that might have wanted to do him harm?
  JL - a few spouses maybe, but no, he wasn't in contact with most of them, they never lasted long, except Bethany Mortby, they lasted nearly three years, I thought it was really something, but they parted as friends. She's a practicing witch, she and Bill still work together, she was here this week. Oh God, I have to call her and let her know what has happened.
If you'd had a fight, why were you going to Bill's house this morning?
  JL - to demand an apology! I was determined to get one and then - then I saw him lying there.

Jon begins to cry again.
