Ghostly Inspirations U is for Unfinished #AtoZChallenge 2018

Welcome to my offering for The A to Z Blogging Challenge 2018
My theme this year is Ghostly Inspirations
a collection of spirits that have been prompted by my encounters with places and times. Some are spooky, some more about atmosphere. I'll be describing each inspiration and the phantom that came to my mind, and then I will share a drabble, which I hope will entertain. :)

Disclaimer: The places and experienced I have used for my inspiration are real, but my ghosts and drabbles are complete fiction, linked to nothing and no-one, alive or dead. When writing about my inspirations, I may have changed names and obfuscated specific details to 'protect the innocent' :).

U is for Unfinished

Inspiration:
There’s something about houses that are unfinished that makes me uncomfortable. I’ve stayed in a few places that were being done up and all of them left me feeling vulnerable. I’ve slept in rooms where the windows don’t have curtains because they’re being decorated, and at night, I have slept with my back to those windows because their starkness, their view straight out without anything in the way, has given me the creeps.

These places that are being changed, that have yet to be re-domesticated, are my inspiration today.

Ghost:
JJ died as he lived - in the shadows. A thief, a mugger, an attacker, he had no respect for others and enjoyed the freedom of the streets, where he believed in survival of the fittest. Until he met someone meaner than him.

Stabbed and losing blood, JJ fled the bigger thug and ducked into a decrepit London townhouse. He died there, in the dark, broken place, alone and angry.

Redecorating

Kieran looked round at the stripped walls. Blowing a stray piece of wallpaper from her nose, she smiled. The scrap drifted on a short gust of chill wind. Kieran’s skin prickled. She shook herself and reached for the broom. The tool clattered to the floor just in front of her fingertips.

A snarl sounded beside her ear. Keiran straightened and closed her eyes. Settling, she reached out and found him instantly: cold, nasty, mean.

“I don’t just strip walls, JJ.” she warned.

He growled. Kieran focused. He screeched. He fought, but he didn’t stand a chance. Gone. Kieran smiled again.
