Wittegen Press Seeking Pre-Release Reviewers for eBooks

Wittegen Press Seeking Pre-Release Reviewers for eBooks

So Tasha and I are currently looking for people who would be willing to be pre-release reviewers for Wittegen Press. Before you click on to another page, this involves FREE books :).

We are seeking individuals who would be willing to read and give honest reviews of advanced copies (ARCs) of our books prior to general release. If you would be interested please:
  1. Fill in the Google Form at the bottom of this post.
  2. If you are accepted we will then add you to the Wittegen Press Reviewers mailing list.
Don't worry, people on the mailing list will NOT be expected to review all books. We totally understand that there are times when we all do not have time to drop everything to read a book or a particular book may not be within our genres of choice.

The system for reviewing will be as follows:
  1. An email will be sent to the Wittegen Press Reviewers list with details of the book to be reviewed.
  2. Those interested in reviewing it will respond by filling in a Google form for that book.
  3. We will select a group of reviewers from the pool.
  4. Those selected will be sent an ARC of the book in their format of choice with the proviso they will read it within a certain time, which will be stipulated with each book.
  5. If we have more reviewers than required, those not selected in that particular instance will be notified.
  6. Individuals will then give an honest review of the book at Amazon and any other places they frequent on the web.
Many thanks to all those who are interested.

The Burning Web (Ghost Story) by Sophie Duncan AVAILABLE NOW only $3.99 - Perfect for Halloween!

My newest release, The Burning Web, a spooky ghost story perfect for anyone getting into the spirit of Halloween, is available to buy now at Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Apple for only $3.99/£2.49.

Something more than guilt is haunting ex-copper, Tris McCall, when he and his husband, Xander, refurbish a crumbling Victorian mansion, Berwick House. Faced with disbelief and medical explanations for the spectral visitations from both his doctors and his partner, Tris must decide if it is the damage left by the brain injury he has suffered, or something darker that is speaking to him. Can he trust his own senses, and if he can, what are they telling him?

~

I really enjoyed writing this book. I might have even scared myself a few times when I was editing it late at night at home alone! ;P I am a big, big fan of ghost stories: I read and reread the likes of Susan Hill and M R James when I want a good scare. That traditional, Gothic style of story with old houses, dark shadows and vengeful ghosts is my kind of book and The Burning Web is my tribute to those terrifying masterpieces.

I've written paranormal novels (The Night Blood Chronicles) before, and I have dabbled in horror short stories, but The Burning Web is my first novel-length foray into the ghostly genre. I wanted more space to explore the idea of what a haunting can mean to modern people, and I wanted to add that rational doubt to the Gothic feel of my plot. Tris and Xander are a modern couple, dogged by trouble.

Tris is an ex-police officer, who left the force after a shooting incident, the stress of which led eventually to him suffering a brain haemorrhage. The guilt of his mistake has followed him out of the force and renovating Berwick House is his means of escape from the past.

Xander, Tris' husband, is a trauma surgeon and has become Tris' carer during Tris' recovery from the debilitating stroke. Part of the story examines how that responsibility has affected the relationship between the beleaguered couple as they start to emerge from what they think are the dark days behind them.

It is onto this backdrop of Tris and Xander's relationship that I have overlaid  the ghost story. On his first night in Berwick House, Tris begins to sense something is amiss, but can he trust what his damaged brain is telling him? I will leave that up to anyone who reads the story to decide :).

Do you like a good ghost story? Share your favourites :).

The Burning Web (Ghost Story) by Sophie Duncan Cover Reveal & Pre-Order Information

As promised, it's cover reveal time for my new book, The Burning Web. The book is a ghost story following ex-copper, Tris McCall, as he tries to rebuild his life after a shooting incident that cost him his career and his health. The consequences of his actions have changed Tris' perspective on life in more ways than he knows when, still recovering from a brain haemorrhage, he begins visiting Berwick House, the rambling Victorian pile he is planning to make a family home with his husband, Xander. he quickly discovers that the house holds secrets that force him into keeping some of his own.

The book has a fair collection of scares and spookiness, so I hope the cover reflects that. So, here's the cover in all its creepy glory :)

The Burning Web is NOW available for Pre-order too.
Through Amazon, Kobo & Barnes & Noble

It's said the eyes are the windows to the soul, but that's a lie. They are snapshots of a time yet to come–the future of the person to which they belong.

Cyclop Blaine stands out in a crowd with his pale skin and mismatched eyes, but it’s his ability to see the future that really sets him apart. The unusual gift makes him an invaluable asset to Tyler, his adoptive father and leader of the Victory Street Gang. It also means Cyclop must hide what he can do from others. Once, a man he knew only as Master controlled him, using him for experiments. Cyclop has no desire to return to that life.

But he may have no choice. A man claiming ownership over him haunts his dreams and waking moments, leaving him no choice but to go back to the past he thought he had escaped. Cyclop must face this man, along with his past, if he wants to reveal his own future.

TLW Lexicon - A Literary Festival for Readers & Writers! 15th & 16th March 2014

TLW Lexicon 15th & 16th March 2014
Next weekend is going to be fab, because it's the event I've been looking forward to since Graham Guy announced it - The TLW Lexicon 2014 is upon us.

A literary festival for both readers and writers, the TLW Lexicon boasts a great line up: screenwriter, Christopher Colton; editor, writer, tutor Katy Darby; best-selling author, Stephen Deas; author and editor Cherry Potts; prize-winning author, Stewart Ross; author Bartle Sawbridge; author, screenwriter Ben Slythe; and, of course, author, photographer and the man responsible for the festival, Graham Guy.

Plus, another reason I'm really excited about this event is that my sister, Tasha, and I, who run Wittegen Press, are also featuring during the festival. We're going to be on the main stage both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, we're, talking about Self-publishing vs Indie Publishing, where we'll be discussing why we set up our own publisher, and some hints in and tips on going it alone in the publishing world. On Sunday, we're talking about Building Worlds and Building Audiences. Plus, of course, we'll be hanging around the festival at other times, joining in the start of the day panels and listening to the other panellists. Plus, we'd love to meet people and talk about books :).

I'm particularly looking forward to the screening of Wilds a film by Ben and Graham, at lunchtime on either day and the screenwriting workshop by Chris on Sunday afternoon, since it's not an area of writing I'm familiar with. All the other panels sound interesting too and there's some great readings and plays going on the performance stage throughout the day.

There's also signings, a chance to meet all the authors and business stalls as well, and it's all for only £1 to get in.

Oh yes, finally, you probably want to know where all this is happening: The TLW Lexicon is taking place on 15th and 16th March 2014 at the Alexander Centre Faversham, Kent, UK. There's a great train service to Faversham, straight down from London, and also it's just off the M2.

For more details of how to get to the event, and much more information about all the happenings, check out the TLW Lexicon's website.

When, Hieron, vampire lord of Harkham, is approached by a mysterious young stranger, he finds himself tempted by the bargain his bold visitor makes: ninety nine years of absolute service in return for vampire power. With no name and no explanation of the reasons behind the offer, the attractive enigma becomes Umi, Hieron's slave, concubine and vampire childe.

Yet, from the very first moments the bargain is sealed, Hieron discovers his concubine to be an erotic and obsessively maddening challenge.

The Vampire's Concubine is an erotic romance told in short-story episodes.

Rage - The Vampire's Concubine #2 ($0.99/£0.77/EUR0.86)

The bargain has been sealed, Umi is now a vampire and belongs to Hieron as his concubine. Yet, Hieron cannot reconcile himself to the secrecy behind his new slave, it makes him dangerously angry and the vampire lord lives up to his warning to Umi that he will be cruel.

Hieron's demands weigh heavily on Umi, who, it seems, cannot please his master. As Hieron's rage grows, Umi's time is running out. Desperately, he searches to find the key to salving Hieron's fury before the beast within his sire rises to destroy him.

Purchase 'Rage' and get 'An Amusement - The Vampire's Concubine #1' FREE - see inside the book for details.

Available at Amazon and Smashwords - for buying links, please see this entry on the Wittegen Press website: wittegenpress.com/rage.

An Amusement - The Vampire's Concubine #1 ($0.99/£0.77/EUR0.86)

Hieron, vampire lord of Harkham, is unaccustomed to visitors in his private bedchamber unless he has expressly invited them. Such an unsolicited intrusion should mean the interloper's death, but Hieron finds himself unusually fascinated by the stranger who appears before him unbidden. Offering no name and no explanation of his reasons, the young man offers ninety nine years of absolute service in exchange for the gift of vampire power.

Amused and aroused, Hieron agrees to the bargain, names his enigma, Umi and decides he will become his newest concubine. The only thing left is to seal the deal in a bond of sex and supernatural power.

Available at Amazon, Smashwords and iTunes - for buying options, please see this entry on the Wittegen Press website: wittegenpress.com/anamusement

COMING SOON - Dark of Mind - The Vampire's Concubine #3

Umi is no normal concubine. His master's gift of vampirism notwithstanding, there is much more to him than the Lord of Harkham has yet discovered. Hieron is no longer angry with Umi's secrets, but he remains intrigued and, demon-owned twice over Umi maybe, but it is his mind that interests Hieron the most.

Under Yan's tutelage, Umi is discovering the rites and skills to being a concubine, and Hieron is master when it comes to the night in his newest concubine's veins, mostly. That bond holds a limit that Hieron has never experienced before: his childe has resisted the most intimate of contacts, that of the mind to mind control that normally lies within a sire's remit.

There is power in his childe, power not of the vampire's giving and, before Heiron is ready to deliver Umi to the harem, he means to discover it.

A to Z April Blogging Challenge 2014 - are you in?

Sooo, it's that time of year again, the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge participant's list is now open for folks to join and, guess what I just did! o.O

26 days in April, each day a blog post inspired by a different letter of the alphabet.

Well, signing up was the easy bit - now I have to decide what to write about for 26 (almost) consecutive days.  I could pick a theme, if I can think of one, or I could go random like I did last year. I'm tempted by the theme idea, but I'll have to plan that carefully, since I do not want to bore for England on one narrow topic for 26 days ;P.

We'll be doing Drabblerotic over on Fantasy Boys XXX again too - that should be spicy fun :).

I met some really interesting folks last year by wandering around the participants' list, so I'm looking forward to the blog hopping aspect of this event as well.

The A to Z is hard work, but rewarding, so who's signing up then?
