Ghostly Inspirations T is for Terrace #AtoZChallenge 2018

Welcome to my offering for The A to Z Blogging Challenge 2018
My theme this year is Ghostly Inspirations
a collection of spirits that have been prompted by my encounters with places and times. Some are spooky, some more about atmosphere. I'll be describing each inspiration and the phantom that came to my mind, and then I will share a drabble, which I hope will entertain. :)

Disclaimer: The places and experienced I have used for my inspiration are real, but my ghosts and drabbles are complete fiction, linked to nothing and no-one, alive or dead. When writing about my inspirations, I may have changed names and obfuscated specific details to 'protect the innocent' :).

T is for Terrace

Inspiration:
It’s not always remote, strange, or dramatic locations that generate inspirations of the spooky kind. I have lived in and visited several terraced houses, and anyone who has ever stayed in one of these connected domiciles will know that you share a certain amount of your life with the people on either side. If it’s not hearing your neighbours going up and down the stairs, it’s the thumps and rumbles of furniture being moved, or the odd raised voice as relationships take their natural course.

The question is, how can you tell if what you are hearing from next door is the living, or the dead?

Ghost:
Is there a ghost, or isn’t there?

Bumps in the Night

They were at it again - the neighbours - up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. Lali rolled over and pulled the duvet over her head. It wasn’t fair she had to have the room that bordered next door. Thump, thump, thump all night.

What the hell were they doing at 3am?

Exhausted, Lali grabbed a pillow and threw it at the adjoining wall.

Glorious silence...

“They were doing it again last night.” Lali complained next morning at breakfast.

“Now I know you’re making it up.” Mother tutted at daughter. “The Joneses are away all week.”

Lali chilled.
