Ghostly Inspirations G is for Grunge #AtoZChallenge 2018

Welcome to my offering for The A to Z Blogging Challenge 2018
My theme this year is Ghostly Inspirations
a collection of spirits that have been prompted by my encounters with places and times. Some are spooky, some more about atmosphere. I'll be describing each inspiration and the phantom that came to my mind, and then I will share a drabble, which I hope will entertain. :)

Disclaimer: The places and experienced I have used for my inspiration are real, but my ghosts and drabbles are complete fiction, linked to nothing and no-one, alive or dead. When writing about my inspirations, I may have changed names and obfuscated specific details to 'protect the innocent' :).

G is for Grunge

Inspiration:
I haven’t been to many nightclubs, but those I have been to always strike me an anonymous places - the music is too loud for a conversation, the room too dark and the lights too intermittent to really connect with anyone on more than a superficial level. That pulsing beat, that release to the music is what has inspired me today.

Ghost:
Everyone likes a good dance, in a darkened club, losing ourselves to the music - we could be dancing next to anyone.

The Beat

Gigi didn’t need drugs or drink to kick off her night, she wanted thumping base and a dance floor. She stepped into the fray alone, black skin-tight catsuit plenty to get her noticed, but she didn’t give the guys a second glance. Only the music mattered.

The primal pulse ran up through Gigi’s body. Arms up, head back, song after song slipped away. Then there was a body moving with her. A girl slipped in and out of her sight, slow at first, then, demanding more, faster, harder.

When Gigi dropped, the dancers parted. No girl, no music, no breath.

  1. You are right about the nightclub. I've gone sometimes when I was a kid, but I quickly got bored abotu them for the reason you speak of: it's like being alone out there.

    The story it's creepy!!!!

  3. Hi Sophie - well I'm glad I don't go to nightclubs ... so this is unlikely to happen - great storytelling though - cheers Hilary

  4. I really like the conflict of loud music, loads of people and the silent ghost.

  5. I thought I saw some strange things in nightclubs when I was young, but then it was London in the 60's!
